A 4th Generation Texan, born in Dallas and direct descendant of Robert Titus who came here from England on the second sailing of the Hopewell in the 1635. 11th Generation American.
Daniel grew up in the suburbs of Dallas, TX. Active in Boy Scouts for many years and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Varsity athlete in swimming for 2 years. Editor of the school paper and yearbook for 2 years.
He graduated from Dallas Baptist University and was commissioned in the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant a few months later. Already a commercial pilot and flight instructor, Dan reported for Air Force flight training at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, TX. After completion of training, he was assigned to the B-52 as a Combat Crewman. Based out of Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, La, Daniel flew missions around the world for the next 4 years. He was dual qualified in multiple versions of the B-52 and trainer jets. He was qualified in conventional, low level and maritime strike operations as well as non-conventional low level and high level nuclear operations. Dan participated in numerous Red Flag missions and world-wide deployments.
Next he was assigned to Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, TX as an advanced Instructor Pilot in the T-38. The T-38 is used for combat pilot initial training. Daniel stayed in the T-38 training world for the next 10 years, earning 8 best instructor pilot awards, numerous squadron and wing awards including squadron top instructor pilot twice. He completed Air Command and Staff College while stationed at Laughlin AFB.
Dan was assigned next to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX as a Pilot Instructor Trainer (PIT) – teaching instructor candidates how to be an Instructor. This was in the Air Force’s newest training aircraft, the T-6A. This aircraft is the same size, weight and performance as a P-51 Mustang.
Dan deployed to Holloman Air Force Base in 2009, tasked with standing up a brand new training squadron from the ground up. This was for Air Combat Command’s newest weapon systems, the MQ9 drones. After this tour, he was re-assigned back to Laughlin AFB as a T-38 Instructor again.
Dan then deployed with the Army to Afghanistan for a year-long ground combat tour as the Chief of Region Operations. He was responsible for all our base support functions for the entire theater of operation. He was directly responsible for oversight and execution of an 8 Billion dollar budget. Lt Col Haynes prepared talking papers and briefings for the theater commander as well as the Secretary of Defense.
Dan retired from active duty as a Lt Colonel upon return from Afghanistan in 2013.
Started in the financial services industry with one of the big institutions in 2013. This proved to be an ideal fit for Daniel’s 24 years of military experience.
Daniel started out on his own as owner of Sky King Investments, a part of the ProEquities system of financial professionals and moved to the Austin area in May of 2016.
Still an active and avid pilot, Daniel provides on demand pilot services for an air ambulance based at Austin Executive Airport. He also teaches lessons in and flies his own Cessna 310J for business travel. Dan has a life-long passion for not just flying, but for old Mustang’s as well. He currently has a 1970 Mach 1, restored into a Boss 302 Trans Am replica. Dan built this car from the ground up while stationed in Del Rio, TX. He restored the car after years of storage while in Afghanistan.
Daniel has two adult daughters. His oldest is in graduate school at Texas A&M, with a Bachelors from St Edwards University in Austin. His youngest daughter works and goes to school in Austin
